Deacon Jerome Paul Collins, Sr.

Deacon Jerome Paul Collins, Sr. is married to Sylvia Espree Collins. Deacon Collins was born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana. He is the father of five children, four boys and one girl. He has four daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was educated at Holy Ghost High School in Opelousas, by the wonderful Sisters of the Holy Family. Graduated in 1957 and went to work at Cotton Product Oil Company (Lou Anna).

In 1961 he went into the Army. After leaving the Army and in 1968, went to work for Williams-Progressive Life & Accident Insurance Company for 39 years, before retiring to concentrate more fully on becoming a Permanent Deacon in The Diocese of Lafayette. He was ordained in the year 2000 and has been at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church since ordination.

Besides his duties as a Deacon, he is Director of the Religious Education, Perpetual Adoration Chapel, (hours from 12 midnight to 5:00 am), Safe Environment Coordinator, and Chaplain at Opelousas General Hospital South.
